President address: Respect our Game

February 03, 2024

Dear Mullingar Rugby Club Members,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your incredible support during the "Respect of Game" campaign over the weekend of 2nd to 4th February.

The Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) has called on all clubs to participate in this significant initiative, emphasizing the core values of the game, particularly the crucial aspect of RESPECT for players, volunteers, members, and spectators alike.

It is essential to recognize that the success of our club is deeply intertwined with the positive experiences our members have. The IRFU's State of the Game Survey in 2022 revealed that poor sideline behavior significantly affects the retention of players, coaches, and referees, with 55%, 43%, and 47% respectively reconsidering their roles in the game.

The "Respect of Game" weekend aims to spotlight our club's values and showcase the positive impact rugby can have when played in a respectful and safe environment. By participating in various activities, such as fair play awards at adult games, maintaining silent/positive sidelines at youth games, and educating parents and coaches on their influential role, we contribute to creating a welcoming and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

I am thrilled to announce that the IRFU will be providing our club with Respect Our Game Branded rugby balls, spot prizes for competitions held over the weekend, and other goodies to help promote the campaign's message.

Your active involvement and commitment to upholding the values of rugby not only contribute to the success of our club but also help foster a positive environment for current and future members. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the well-being of our community through the sport we love.

Thank you once again for your unwavering support.

Best regards,

Conall FitzgeraldClub President Mullingar Rugby Club
