Mullingar Red RFC vs Portarlington RFC & Wicklow RFC vs Mullingar Blue RFC - Match Report

This weekend was a bustling one for the Mullingar RFC Under 13 boys, showcasing the depth and enthusiasm within the club as both the Red and Blue teams took to the field. The commitment to fielding two teams at this age level is a commendable achievement and reflects the growing interest in rugby among the youth.

Mullingar Red RFC vs Portarlington RFCThe Reds faced a formidable Portarlington side at Shay Murtagh Park, confronting a large and prepared visiting squad. The first half saw Mullingar struggling to find their rhythm, but the team rallied impressively after the break. Despite a spirited comeback featuring two well-executed tries by Ben and Ollie, the Reds couldn't bridge the gap, ending the match with a 21-10 defeat to Portarlington. The second-half performance, however, was a testament to the team's resilience and potential.

Wicklow RFC vs Mullingar Blue RFCOn the road, the Mullingar Blue team demonstrated their prowess from the outset against Wicklow RFC. An early try by Óran, expertly converted by Colm, set the tone for the game. Although Wicklow responded with a try of their own, Mullingar's Daire powered over the line for a second try, once again converted by Colm. The first half concluded with Mullingar showcasing formidable defence, particularly as Wicklow intensified their attack.

The second half saw Mullingar maintaining their momentum, with additional tries from Óran and Daire, and another conversion by Colm solidifying their lead. Despite a late surge from Wicklow, who managed two late tries, Mullingar held on to secure a 26-19 victory. This result was a credit to the team's defensive strength and attacking flair.

Special commendations go to PJ for his club debut and the team captains who displayed exceptional leadership. The weekend's fixtures were not just a showcase of rugby talent but also of the spirit and camaraderie that defines Mullingar RFC's Under 13 teams. Well done to all players, coaches, and supporters involved in these thrilling encounters.
