In an electrifying showdown at Shay Murtagh Park, Mullingar's First Men's rugby team concluded their season with a heart-stopping match against Wicklow. Despite Mullingar standing two divisions below, they showcased exceptional skill and determination, holding Wicklow at bay for the majority of the game.

The clash, marked by strategic play and relentless spirit, seemed to tilt in Mullingar's favour until the final moments. However, Wicklow managed to secure a crucial penalty kick just before the game's end, clinching a narrow victory with a final score of 31-28.

After the game, Club Captain Paul Maxwell shared his thoughts, highlighting the emotional weight of the loss but also the pride in his team's performance. "Losing such a critical game is tough, but the way we held our own against a top-tier team speaks volumes of our commitment and skill," Maxwell said. He praised the team for their undefeated league run, underscoring a season filled with accomplishments.

The sentiment of progress and community support was also emphasized by Club President Conall Fitzgerald, who praised the remarkable turnout at Shay Murtagh Park. "Today's crowd was one of the largest we've seen in years, a true testament to the progress we've made as a team," Fitzgerald remarked.

This season has undeniably been a journey of growth and achievement for Mullingar. Despite the day's loss, the team's promotion to a higher league next season and the unwavering support from their fans promise a bright future. As Mullingar Rugby looks ahead, the foundations laid this season will undoubtedly fuel their aspirations for greater successes.
